About
Frontier Channel is news and commentary about the Great Frontiers of cyberspace, outer space, the ocean, and destinations in between. The site is maintained and edited by Richard Leis, Jr.
History
Since the late 1990s the site has undergone a name change and several redesigns. From 2004 through 2006 Frontier Channel was primarily a static HTML news site, with an emphasis on planetary science. I also briefly hosted RADIO Frontier Channel, a podcast. After little activity from April 2006 through July 2007 due to the tedium of manually maintaining the site and creating new content, I migrated these static pages into WordPress, a content management system, and merged the site with my transhumanist blog, Cybernudism. I moved the images from the old version of the site to Coppermine Photo Gallery, a media management system.
In addition to the topics covered to date, Frontier Channel will now include more news and commentary regarding transhumanist-related topics, including artificial general intelligence (AGI), the Metaverse, nanotechnology, radical life extension, the Technological Singularity, transhumanism, and uploading.
In late 2007 and early 2008, work on Frontier Channel slowed down while I ramped up the h+ website. The events that use to be listed in the Frontier Channel sidebar have now been moved to h+ Events. I am currently (as of January 2008) toying with the idea of Frontier Channel becoming the news outlet arm of the h+ organization.
